Baia di Bagnaia is a gentle Elba inlet with a mix of pebble and sand, edged by low hills and a small waterfront. The bay stays close to Portoferraio, so it works as an easy base without feeling too built up. Read more
Portoferraio’s historic centre has the Medici fortifications and the harbour-front passeggiata. For a change of scene, head inland to the villages around Rio for mining history, or take a coastal walk towards Nisporto for more quiet coves.

1 Review on “Baia di Bagnaia”
The seabed here is mostly covered with seagrass, which can make anchoring a bit challenging, especially with strong winds. There are a couple of mooring buoys, but they are often taken up by local sailing schools, which might limit your options. On a calm day, it’s a beautiful place to drop anchor and enjoy the view. However, if the wind picks up, especially from the north, the bay isn’t very sheltered, and you might find yourself exposed to uncomfortable conditions.
