As a sailor who’s dropped anchor here, I can tell you Cala di Chiaia di Luna offers a fascinating maritime stopover on Ponza island. The bay presents a sheltered inlet. Depths range between 5-15 meters, with a seabed predominantly composed of sand.
Winds from northwest and west can create moderate chop, so I recommend approaching during calm weather conditions. The surrounding volcanic cliffs provide partial wind protection, but stay alert to potential wind shifts. Water clarity is exceptional – you’ll see the bottom details with remarkable precision.
You can walk to Porto di Ponza for basic repairs, and provisioning.
