1 Reviews on “Cala di Santa Maria”
On the southeastern side of Santa Maria Island, in Sardinia’s La Maddalena Archipelago, Cala di Santa Maria offers a picturesque anchorage.
The cove features a sandy seabed, providing reliable holding for anchors. However, caution is necessary when approaching due to numerous rocks at the entrance and a shallow patch of approximately 1.6 meters in the southern approach. The recommended approach is from the east, staying close to Punta Vecchio Marino to avoid above-water rocks.
Anchoring is permitted in the bay, and there are mooring buoys available for vessels up to 14 meters in length. The anchorage is seasonal, and it’s advisable to check the availability of guest buoys in advance.
The bay is open to the southeast, making it less suitable during winds from the southwest to northeast, which can render the anchorage uncomfortable or even untenable in strong conditions.
The beach can become crowded, and there are limited facilities, including a lack of rubbish disposal and toilets. Therefore, it’s important to come prepared with necessary provisions and to manage waste responsibly.
