Anchoring in Naxos is a mixed bag depending on the weather and time of year. The sandy seabed offers great holding, which makes setting anchor pretty straightforward but you might find yourself rolling even if the wind isn’t too strong. A stern anchor can help stabilize the boat, but it’s still an active place with lots of wave action.
On a calm day, though, the view of Mount Etna is absolutely stunningg. If you’re into sightseeing, Naxos is a great jumping-off point for visiting Taormina or exploring the historic area by dinghy. That said, if the swell is up, the anchorage can quickly become uncomfortable, so it’s worth checking the weather forecast carefully.
