1 Reviews on “Cala Portals Vells”
Nestled on Mallorca’s southwest coast, this anchorage is a bit of a mixed bag. During the day, it can get crowded with charter boats, making it a bit of a tight squeeze. The water is generally calm, but the high traffic can sometimes lead to a bit of chaos.
The anchoring conditions are quite favorable with a sandy seabed, though you’ll also find some seagrass patches. The best approach is to anchor in the sand patches, usually around 7 to 8 meters deep. For a quieter experience, try to arrive later in the day when the charter boats head back to port. The bay is well-sheltered from most directions, except for the east, where it can be exposed to some swell. In the evenings, the place transforms into a more serene spot, offering lovely views and the chance to explore the nearby caves, which have their own interesting history. The small port nearby allows dinghy access, and there are a few amenities like a snack bar.
