Hello, I know this yard very well, having spent the 2017–2018 hurricane season there, and a friend of mine spent the 2018–2019 season there.
It’s a good yard for leaving your boat in a safe place and doing your own work. The yard is well-guarded, and there’s plenty of space, with more than half of it reserved for catamarans.
The lifting equipment is relatively limited—for example, with my 16-meter ketch, I had to ‘disconnect the backstay’ to allow the straps to pass.
The owner is a local who’s passionate about racing sailboats. As is often the case in the Caribbean, the whole family works there, with varying levels of seriousness.
The pros:
- Fairly affordable, but keep an eye on prices when the bills come.
- Relaxed atmosphere, with a very pleasant bar and restaurant.
- There’s a chandlery affiliated with the major Budget Marine chain, well-stocked, and if they don’t have what you need, they’ll order it from St. George’s, the capital.
- Skilled professionals: sailmaking and electronics.
The cons:
- Unskilled professionals: painting, fiberglass work, and rigging.
- A bit far from everything (provisions, town, airport, etc.).
That’s what I can share about it.
