Saint-Pierre, a region of Martinique
Nestled at the foot of the towering Mount Pelée volcano, this area was once the cultural and economic heart of Martinique, a place so vibrant it was known as the “Paris of the Caribbean.” Saint-Pierre’s fortunes were drastically changed in 1902 when Mount Pelée erupted with devastating force, leaving the entire city in ruins and its population decimated.
