Hi there. Here I am in Carriacou, very behind on my planned schedule. But I remember what some people told me about Carriacou, and I need to provide an update. I think things have really changed. Everything is more expensive here than anywhere else in the Grenadines, the locals seem to be in a bad mood, and the cost of careening is getting dangerously close to prices in the rest of the Caribbean. For my 8.50m boat, the rate is 270 US dollars for about ten days in total, including pressure washing and cradle. After that, it goes up… (for comparison, Pointe-à-Pitre was asking 250 + 9 euros per day from day one).

Food is practically double the price of, for example, Bequia, and even some garbage disposal is charged. The clearance cost me 70 EC (Eastern Caribbean dollars, 2.70 for 1 euro). These are my first impressions. Maybe I’ll find better things to say over time, and I won’t fail to keep you updated. Until then, so long everyone. Oh yes! I’m attaching a photo of the place

Hello, Indeed, things could well be changing in Tyrrel Bay… especially since the new shopping center opened. That said, in my memory, it was never a cheap place… for provisioning, don’t hesitate to go to Hillsborough, more choice in fruits and vegetables, nice fish market, and you’ll even find fresh cheese!

Regarding the boatyards, prices at the new one seem to fluctuate according to what I’ve heard, but the service seems decent… as for the old one, after seeing a catamaran propped up on large stones, I would avoid it… All I know is that if you go as far as Trinidad, you’ll have fixed prices from one year to the next, professional service, and a very friendly welcome.

For reference, at Power Boats, for each of my 4 haul-outs (over 4 years), I paid exactly the same: $250 for 6 days on land all-inclusive, and that’s for a 37-foot catamaran.

Results based on late March 2020 to early December 2020 for a 38-foot lifting keel monohull:

      • Monthly storage for powerboats: $512.76 USD, which at the current exchange rate is €460.80.
      • Current monthly storage at Carenantilles, Le Marin: €505.66.

The real difference lies in the haul-out and relaunch package:

      • $250 USD for a 6-day package, versus €750 for a 4-day package in Le Marin.

Given the challenges related to transport, accommodation, and transfers, this option isn’t attractive for long-term storage.

Additionally, in case of an accident with the slings, French professional liability law applies in Martinique, whereas in these territories with local legal systems, I imagine things could be more complicated. I’ve already had a minor incident in Carriacou—luckily nothing serious—but the guys flat-out denied any responsibility.

However, it could be interesting for a one-time haul-out and maintenance.
