Last night, several dinghies and outboard motors were stolen from the Club Med anchorage in Martinique.

So if you come across someone selling a Johnson 15hp 2-stroke, it belongs to my neighbor.

The suspects were seen the day before loitering around the dinghy docks, asking a lot of questions about the prices of new and used gear. The questions seemed suspicious, and they claimed to not own a boat.

Two dinghies were found without their motors. This happened before 3 a.m.

      Thanks for staying alert.

Where is the Club Med anchorage? I’m familiar with Sainte-Anne town and beach, or Caritan.
What’s a “dinghy dock”? The pontoon at Sainte-Anne isn’t just for dinghies, and it’s actually quite unsuitable for them!

Unfortunately, thefts of dinghies and their motors aren’t uncommon. Mostly, the thieves aren’t locals, but other boaters who meet their needs this way…

The anchorage at Sainte-Anne now stretches from the Club Med beach to Caritan.

Many boats anchor within the 300m zone in front of this beach, which has a designated area for motorized dinghies.

There’s a dock in town and another floating dock in Caritan.

Aside from Les Saintes, Bequia, and Union, I don’t know many anchorages in the Caribbean with docks that are actually suitable for dinghies…

It’s pretty bad in Sainte-Anne, Anses d’Arlet, Saint-Pierre, and Deshaies.

It’s true dinghy thefts are a real nightmare.

Quick question: were you on your boat when it happened?

I’m not far from you, and I feel like we can’t completely avoid this “threat.” The only thing that has worked for me (from experience) is an alarm aimed at the dinghy. The guys took off really fast.
